The last question, and the worst thing our group does not have the chance to choose the topic...
With effect from January 2003, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumet Affairs has made it compulsory for all original optical discs (CD, VCD, DVD, CDR, CDI, LD and MD) as well as cassettes and video tapes to be labeled with the ministry’s original label prior to being released into the market. Do you agree that such illegal action can be easily prevented? Discuss your views.
How can you prevent yourself from watching illegal actions in
today’s globalization that everything is at your fingertips? Will you blame
your parents or the government which has made compulsory to label all the
original optical discs that have been censored from illicit actions? The
sources to view them are very huge and the widespread of pirate DVDs and CDs
among the citizens that dirty animations are not being cut is also the main
reason. Besides, it is not possible nowadays for cunning people to imitate the
labels on the optical discs. Therefore, we strongly agree that illegal scene
are still cannot be prevented easily.
Internet is a
sophisticated way to get on the net. Nowadays, our government possesses an
extraordinary step to enhance the connection in our country by setting up a
network coverage that covers from all corners of the country. Wifi and
broadband manager are two common servers that provide internet connection
whereby people can surf the web whenever they want. Thus, downloading and
watching any latest movie in websites like tonton.com, youtube, and bittorent.com
can be accessed just in an effortless way. Furthermore, a research made by
Domestic Trade Centre proved that, about 70% of citizens in our country prefer
to download any latest movies and videos while only 15% of them choose to buy
optical device as their collections. Therefore, labeling the optical discs does
not seem to be working in preventing illegal action since only minority of
Malaysian purchase them. Downloading any entertainment from the web, somehow
can lead to degradation of moral values because some of the aggressive parts in
the movie are not being censored. The icing of the cake is that the government should
control the usage of internet among the citizens strictly.
Though the
widespread news about labeling original optical disc by the government is
published, most of the citizens are still choosing to buy pirate discs. Economic
Malaysia Journal states that 99.1% of the citizens agree that price is the main
issue for this matter. Usually, the price of the original optical disc is five
times more expensive compared to pirate disc. Therefore, a lot of people are still
able to watch illegal action from the pirate optical disc since the contents
are not censored before they were sold. Rather than that, the availability of
original optical disc is very limited where only certain places provide them
compared to pirate ones. To prove that, famous Chinatown and popular Petaling
Street are two of the most places to be visited by the citizens or even the
foreigners. Besides providing a lot of unique and beautiful souvenirs, bootleg
DVDs and CDs are very easy to be found. Malaysia is a well-known country yet this
eyesore scenario is still happening.
Regrettably, irresponsible people who
are expert in technology have misused their ability only to gain more money by imitating
the original label of the optical discs illegally. As a result, the buyers cannot identify whether
it is original product or not. Try to imagine, if the underage teenagers buy
the products from this irresponsible party such as movies or video games that
contain banned action, thus without parents’
guidance, they will easily get influenced by the negative values. In the
meantime, they will absolutely practice those illegal actions in the real life due
to the brainwashed by the dirty scenes. Global mass media is one of the sources
of technology that is manipulated by the immoral people to carry out their illicit
activity in order to form fake labels. In final consideration, these unethical
activities prove that illegal action still cannot be prevented thoroughly. Please bear in our mind that illegal
animation, in fact, can be hidden bravery by the fearless man with the power of
technology.
To put it laconically, other
alternative ways should be implemented rather than labeling all original
optical discs since this issue does not succeed to overcome illegal actions
though it has been carried out about a decade ago. Please realize that people
still have many sources to watch illicit scenes. Hence, we should find out the
root for this problem that should be overcome rather than continuing what we
have done so far to solve this matter.
